Headliner.fm is a great new tool for artists to use other artists’ viral networks. Think of it as a promotion exchange, where you can buy, sell and barter exchanges for tweets, facebook postings and myspace updates. The program works very well if you are an artist with an established following as you can leverage your fans to gain fans from thousands of other artists. The program also has a monthly membership where you can gain hundreds of thousands of additional “Band Bucks” to exchange for more promotion.

Overall the service has proved more than effective and will bolster any artists viral campaign. Don’t be left behind!

Involver – Complete Brand Marketing for Facebook

I’m sure everyone is aware that Facebook is now the largest social network to ever hit the internet, it is currently ranked the #2 site in the world for traffic, second only to Google. This feat is pretty amazing and leads one to contemplate how exactly can a business, brand, or individual take full advantage of the networking that Facebook offers. Social Project Funding – SellaBand.com

The idea behind SellaBand.com is great, get your fans to fund and profit share in your upcoming recording projects! The social aspect of the site makes it fun, easy, and relativily simple for regular music fans to become actual record moguls! The site is endored by Public Enemy who are currently raising $250,000 from their fans for their next major record label release. In exchange for the funds, they are offering their “Believers” (investor fans) a 33% share in the project collectively. So for a small $25 investment, you can own a part of the next Public Enemy project and actually make money off the release!

I looked into the site a little and it looks very sound, the site acts as an escrow service, meaning the site holds all funds from the users until the goal is reached. Then they take a 10% cut, which is modest, and then slowly release the funds to the artist for the project. In this way they can control how the money is spent as they only pay legitimate invoices that directly promote the project at hand.

In all I give the site an A+ for the idea, now the only thing is for them to gather more user/fans/investors so that projects can reach goals on a regular basis. At this point it appears they only have about 5,000 active users that invest in the projects…but using viral marketing and neat widgets they should be able to quickly rise to a top tool for artists and investors alike. NextBigSound.com Worldwide Online Tracking

I recently came across this GREAT site that uses all new Web 2.0 technology to display an artists web presence across ALL properties online!! It takes into account your myspace plays/views/fans/comments and combines them with data from dozens of other sources including Facebook, Last.fm, and Twitter. The power of this data is amazing, plus when you sign up for an account you can verify your artist profile and tell the program your profile pages so it can better track your artist data.

These kinds of tools will be HUGE in the near future as a third party verification of your buzz as an artist…in other words you can take this data to a record label and if it is strong enough, most will sign you on the spot.

Just another tool in your artist repertoire that will help you analyze and understand your presence in the New Music Industry!!

Online Music Licensing

Many artists know that licensing their tracks is a great way to make money from your master recordings from the use of them in Film, TV, Online and more. But not many artists actually know how to go about doing it. There are many online “Licensing Marketplaces” now that simplify the process using Web 2.0 type sites to aid in the sale of your master recordings. I have links to a few of the best websites that I have found but there are many more emerging everyday! Most of these sites just allow you to upload music and hook up your PayPal and take care of the rest for you!

The one downfall to this is these sites do not act as a typical Publisher, all the licenses that they negotiate are typically fractions of what a large publishing company could potentially secure. The problem it is nearly impossible to get a publisher until you have proven success with your music. So until then, enjoy the fruits of the New Music Industry and Web 2.0 technology!!
